Rishabh Pant Injured After His Car Hits Divider, Catches Fire In Uttarakhand

Star India goalkeeper Rishabh Pant was in a horrific car accident early Friday morning and is currently hospitalized at a Dehradun hospital. Pant was driving his Mercedes Benz when he got into an accident near Roorkee in Uttarakhand. The talented youngster suffered injuries after his car hit a partition and caught fire while en route from Delhi to Uttarakhand. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has provided an update on the health of the 25-year-old cricketer. The pants have two cuts across the forehead and a torn ligament in the right knee, but are currently stable, a statement from the cricket body read.



“Indian goalkeeper Rishabh Pant was in a car accident on Friday morning near Roorkee, Uttarakhand. He was admitted to the Saksham Hospital Multispecialty and Trauma Center, where he received treatment for impact injuries. Rishabh has two cuts on her forehead, a torn ligament in her right knee and also injured her right wrist, ankle and toe and sustained abrasion injuries to her back," the BCCI statement read.


"Rishabh's condition remains stable and he has now been transferred to Max Hospital, Dehradun, where he will undergo an MRI to determine the extent of his injuries and formulate his further treatment."


“BCCI is in constant contact with Rishabh's family, while the medical team is in close contact with the doctors currently treating Rishabh. The board will ensure that Rishabh receives the best medical care possible and receives all the support he needs to get out of this traumatic phase," the statement added.


Pant, who was on her way to her hometown of Roorkee to surprise his mother, fell asleep while he was driving, causing the accident. He had to break the car's windshield to escape after the vehicle caught fire. The driver and other staff of a bus passing through Haryana Roadways helped the cricketer out of the burning Mercedes Benz, Haridwar Police Chief Superintendent Ajai Singh said. The car was completely charred and reduced to a mangled pile. Pant, who was alone in the car, fell asleep and the car hit the partition before catching fire, he said.


Uttarakhand Police Director General Ashok Kumar confirmed that the cricketer was alone in the car at the time of the incident and broke the windshield to escape the vehicle after it caught fire.


“Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant's car crashed at around 5:30am. The accident took place at Mohammedpur Jat, near Roorkee. According to Pant, he fell asleep while driving and, as a result, the car collided with the partition and was trapped. He was transferred to Roorkee hospital from where he has now been transferred to Dehradun,” DGP Ashok Kumar told the media.


Dr Ashish Yagnik from Max Hospital said Rishabh Pant had minor injuries and he was currently being treated for an injury around the waist. He is out of danger and conscious.


Pant was part of the Indian team that won the Test series against Bangladesh 2-0 earlier this month. He had impressed with shots of 46 and 93.


He was recently left out of the announced T20I squad for the series against Sri Lanka and was due to join the National Cricket Academy for the strength and conditioning program ahead of February's Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.


Pant has been India's regular wicketkeeper in all formats since MS Dhoni's retirement and has been one of India's best bat-players in Test cricket for the past few years.

He had played a major role in India's second consecutive Test series victory in Australia in 2020/21.


Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said his government would bear the full cost of Pant's treatment. Dhami spoke to the cricketer's mother, assuring her that the state government will give him all the support he needs.
